William J. Sumney
William J. Sumney, 94, of Chicora died at 7:15 a.m. Wednesday at Chicora Medical Center after a six-week illness.
Born in Worthington, Oct., 20, 1909, he was the son of William and Rachael McElhaney Sumney.
He retired in 1974 from the forge shop at Armco-Butler Works after 30 years. After retiring, he was a farmer. He enjoyed fishing and raising beagles and coonhounds.
Surviving are a son, William E. Sumney of Chicora; two daughters, Linda Patsy of Evans City and Mrs. Michael (Connie) Moniot of Herman; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
His wife, Gladys F. Eisenhuth Sumney, whom he married Oct. 12, 1935, died July 13, 1982. A daughter and two sisters also preceded him in death.
SUMNEY - Friends of William J. Sumney, who died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2004, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. today at STEIGHNER FUNERAL HOME, 111 E. Slippery Rock St., Chicora. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Mark Wallace, pastor of the Christian & Missionary Alliance Church of Chicora, officiating. Burial will be at Hemphill Cemetery, Chicora.
Memorial donations may be made to the Butler County Humane Society, 1015 Evans City Road, Renfrew, PA16053.
