All civil documents found for Harry C Boeke, including his State of Illinois death certificate, list his parents as Francis and Mary (Hammond) Boeke. Considering that Captain Francis Boeke died almost nine years before Harry was born, that is not possible. The U.S. Department of the Interior. Washington, D.C.: U.S. Government Printing Office, documented Mary E Boeke's appeal of the loss of her husband's (Captain Francis Boeke) Civil War pension on December 11, 1886, under the provisions of the Forfeiture of Pensions Act of August 7, 1882, after she gave birth to an out-of-wedlock child in 1883. In the appeal, she stated that she expected to be married to "one Charles Knocke", with whom she was indiscreet at one time, naming him as the father of her child born in 1883 (Harry Charles Boeke). Upon her death, when Harry was only 13, he continued to live with and be cared for by his Boeke siblings.
