Lucille Ratliff Hartpence, 74, died Sept. 4, 1994, in Lincoln Tower Retirement Center in Odessa, Texas. Funeral services were held Wednesday, Sept. 7 at the Sayre First Christian Church with DuWayne Wright officiating. Burial was in Sayre-Doxey Cemetery under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service of Sayre.
Mrs. Hartpence, the daughter of Annabelle and Henry Hadley Ratliff, was born on July 18, 1920, in Sayre. She graduated from Sayre High School in 1938 and married Everett Wayne Hartpence on May 4, 1941, in Sayre. She was a case worker for the Department of Human Services for several years before going to work for the county treasurer, Anna Neely. Mr. Hartpence died on Dec. 25, 1977, and Mrs. Hartpence later moved to Oklahoma City where she returned to the DHS until her retirement on Sept. 1, 1985, after 27 years of public service. She moved to Odessa in June of 1994 to make her home.
She was a member of the Sayre First Christian Church, was a member and past president of Chapter DK of P.E.O. in Sayre and later served as the state president in 1976-77. She was presently a member of Chapter DF in Oklahoma City.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one brother, Carl N. Ratliff.
She is survived by three sons, Jimmy Wayne Hartpence and his wife, June, Midland, Texas; Martin Neal Hartpence of Sayre and Ray Kim Hartpence, Sweetwater; one brother, Elmer Lee Ratliff of Midland; one sister, Eulala Nutt of Kermit, Texas; and several other relatives and friends.
