Willard G. Skeel was the fifth of seven children born to the Rev. Harlow B. Skeel (1824-1909) and his wife Lucy L. Deuel Skeel (1824-1905). His father was a minister of the Methodist Episcopal Church and served in a number of churches in upstate New York. In 1886 Willard married Eleanor Lewis, known to the family as Ella. In 1900 the couple lived in Buffalo, NY where Willard worked in the local office of the Remington Typewriter Co. The family later moved to Camden, Oneida Co., where Willard owned a feed store. By 1920 the family had moved to Malone in Franklin Co., NY and Willard was working as district manager for the Aetna Life Insurance Co. The couple had two children: David Lewis (b. 1887) and Charlotte L. (b. 1890).

Gravesite Details

Though the grave marker gives Willard Skeel's year of birth as 1865, this is contradicted by the 1880 & 1900 Federal Census, the latter noting his birth in July 1860.
