Mrs. Elizabeth Gear, the wife of George W Gear, a substantial farmer residing eight miles southeast of the city, had her neck broken and was instantly killed by being thrown from a wagon.

Gear was absent from home. His two sons from his first marriage, aged fifteen and seventeen years respectively, were engaged breaking a colt, and had hitched it with an old horse to the farm wagon. Thinking they had the colt subdued, they drove home to show their mother how well it worked. She climbed into the wagon to ride a ways, when the team ran off. One of the lines broke and the team ran into a wire fence and stopped. Mrs. Gear attempted to get out of the wagon, when the team started again and she was hurled headlong to the ground.

Elizabeth and George had three children, Josephine, Mattie, and Benjamin Harrison Gear.

Daughter of George and Catherine.

Sister of Isaac Melton, Mary Ann, Margaret Ellen, Catherine Jane, Rachel Ann, Susan Rachel, Lucy May, and George.

My Great Great Grandmother.
