In Elkmont spring time has come but the air feels too much like Dec. for vegetation to make much headway in coming forth, fruit trees are very backward, it is to be hoped we will have a fine crop of fruit this year.... a good deal of corn has been planted, cotton planting will not being until about the 15th, as a general thing the wheat crop looks bad...the measles are about subsided this place, though thre are still some scattered cases through the country, Ms. Hastings her son Wm. and a Mr. Newton died in the vicinity of Elkmont from the effects of measles, those are all the deaths from it I know of.

Betsy's grave is not marked. Her birth year is estimated; her exact date of birth is not known. Please refer to notes in bio section of her husband, Ezekiel Hastings' memorial.
