Obituary, The Watchman and Southron (Sumter, S.C.) - Saturday, December 30, 1916
PLANTER KILLED BY OWN CAR.
W. B. Yarborough of Darlington County Meets Tragic Fate on Christmas Day.
Hartsville, Dec. 26, -- W. B. Yarborough, a planter 33 years of age, of the Philadelphia section of Darlington county was killed in a peculiar manner last night on a public road near Bethel school in the Flynns Cross Road section six miles from Hartsville. Mr. and Mrs. Yarborough and children had been to spend Christmas day with Mrs. Yarborough's mother, Mrs. Gibson, and were returning home when the accident occurred. The car came to a stop.
Mr. Yarborough, forgetting to apply the brake, got out and cranked the machine, which lurched forward suddenly running over him. His neck was broken. The automobile then continued a short distance into a field. Mrs. Yarborough and children were uninjured. He was an industrious farmer.
