Joseph F. Williams, 86, died at Cascade Medical Center in Leavenworth, WA on Saturday April 28, 2012, from a sudden illness. He was born September 14, 1925, at Burbank, WA to John Sidney and Ethel Mae (Nordyke) Williams. He was raised in the Yakima Valley, then moved to Peshastin in the 1940's. He enlisted in the United States Navy in the fall of 1943, and served in the Pacific Theater and participated in many invasions in the South Pacific Islands. On April 26, 1947, he married Bernice C. Swanson at the Dryden Community Church. They made their home in Leavenworth until her death in 1982. Joe worked for the Peshastin Mill in the truck shop for ten years and, from there, went into business for himself. He owned and operated Joe's Repair and Auto Parts on East Leavenworth Road until his retirement in 1981. Joe moved to Peshastin in 1984, when he married Mary R. Johnson. They enjoyed snowmobiling, fishing and traveling until her death in 2007.
Joe is survived by his daughter, Julie Williams of Lakeland, FL; son, Robert Williams of Houston, TX; granddaughters, Erica (Trever) Puskar of Lakeland, FL, Kimberly (Kevin) Slattery of Puyallup, WA and Kelsey Williams of Tacoma, WA; one great-grandson, Brian Slattery of Puyallup.
At Joe's request, there will be no service held. Private Inurnment will be in the Mt. View Cemetery. Ward's Funeral Chapel, Leavenworth, is in charge of the arrangements.
