He was born March 11, 1910 in Cleveland, WI, son of the late Frank and Mary (Leonhard) Schmitt.
He was married to Mary Lodes on May 9, 1939 at St. Charles Catholic Church in Charlesburg. He had farmed in the town of Chilton and worked at the Chilton Manufacturing Co. until his retirement. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Chilton, and the St. Joseph Society.
Survivors include his wife, Mary; three daughters and sons-in-law, Agnes (Francis) Wenig, of Elmhurst, Illinois; Monica (Thomas) Knauf of Stockbridge; Loretta (Harold) Heller, of Menasha; three sons and one daughter-in-law, Albert (Cindy) Schmitt of Cottage Grove, Minnesota; Ronald Schmitt of Chilton and Kenneth Schmitt of Milwaukee; 12 grandchildren; three sisters, Genevieve Sukowatey of Sheboygan; Mrs. Herb (Rita) Malhoch of Kiel and Sister Mary Josephine Schmitt of Manitowoc; two brothers and sisters-in-law, William (June) Schmitt of Manitowoc; Clarence and Elaine Schmitt of Sheboygan; two sisters-in-law, Mary and Josephine Schmitt, both of Cleveland.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Francis, Henry and George.
Funeral services were held at St. Mary Catholic Church in Chilton, with the Rev. Loren Nys officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.
