Funeral Services for Clara Alexander, 89 of Baxter will be Tuesday, May 22 at 1 P.M. from the Baxter Chapel of Hooper Huddleston Horner Funeral Home with interment in Odd Fellows Cemetery.
Mrs. Alexander died Saturday morning, May 19, 2012 in Cookeville Regional Medical Center.
She was born May 5, 1923 in Putnam County to the late Ray Van and Velma Roberts Phillips.
After graduation from Baxter Seminary she went to Detroit and became a "Rosie the Rivetor" working on B-17's and P-47's during World War 2. Later along with her late husband, Howard Nelson Alexander, they were owner/operators of Alexander Grocery in Baxter.
She was a member of Baxter First Church of God for over 60 years. She served as Song Leader and Sunday School Teacher for many years and was active in the Ladies Missionary Society.
She was also a member of Baxter Senior Citizens.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by daughter-in-law Brenda Alexander, sister, Gracie Brown and brothers Bernon Phillips and Johnny Ray Phillips.
Survivors include son Michael "MIKE" Alexander of Goodlettsville, TN, grandchildren: Emily Alexander of Madison, TN and Michael Alexander, II of Goodlettsville, sister Ruby Stewart of Baxter, Niece Maryann Alexander.
Family will receive friends Monday from 5 p.m. until 8 P.M. and after 10 A.M. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Family & friends will serve as pallbearers.
Bro. Archie Whitefield and Bro. Phillip Marsh will officiate.
