Jean Rutledge, 83, of Abilene, died Saturday, May 19, 2012, at a Fort Worth hospital.

The daughter of late Lola (Harrison) and D. W. Rodgers, Jean was born on April 17, 1929 in Merkel, Texas. She graduated from Merkel High School and attended Draughn's Business College. She worked as a realtor for 20 years. She was a member of the Abilene Board of Realtors, having been an officer. She was a member of Wylie Baptist Church.

Jean married Donald Rutledge on December 21, 1946 in Abilene. She and her husband were active in the cutting horse circle where she enjoyed critiquing him from the stands.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Elvis Rodgers, J. D. Rodgers and Royce Rodgers; and a sister, Bernice Rodgers.

Jean is survived by her husband, Donald Rutledge of Abilene; son, Rusty Rutledge and wife Brenda of Spring, Texas; and daughter, Donna Lee Lawrence and husband Royce of Tecumseh; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Cody Cochran and wife Jennifer and children Will, Jess and Claira Lynne, Rusti Rogger and husband Michael and daughter Chloe, Brian Rutledge and wife Kristen, Kiely Rutledge and children Sam and Maggie, Cody Lawrence and wife Karly and children Kinsey and Kisely, Kyle Lawrence and wife Megan and son Kooper, and Rhett Lawrence; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Rickey Snowden, Gene Baker, Jim Hatchett, Arlon Baize, Tommy Rogers and Ken Hogan.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 22, at Wylie Baptist Church with Pastor Cody Cochran, and Pastor Donny Harbers officiating. Interment will follow in Trent Cemetery directed by The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
