Funeral services were conducted from the Gospel Tabernacle in Owen, for Mrs. John Blum, 69, who had been a resident of Owen for 31 years prior to their leaving the community in 1951. She passed away May 17, 1959 at Luther Hospital in Eau Claire where she had been a cancer patient for the past six weeks.
Mrs. John Blum, nee Minnie Roepke, was born Dec. 29, 1889, at Chicago, Ill., where she received her education. On June 13, 1914, while still a resident of Chicago, she was united in marriage to John Blum. After their marriage they moved to Neillsville, residing there until 1920 when they moved to Owen and he was associated with the lumbering industry. The couple and their family of seven children made their home there until 1951, when Mr. and Mrs. Blum moved to Milwaukee. They made their home there until two years ago when they moved to their present residence on route 4, Chippewa Falls.
She is survived by her husband, four sons, Henry of Milwaukee; Karl of The Dalles, Oregon; Edward of Chippewa Falls and John of Austin, Minn.; three daughters, Mrs. Lester (Esther) Balts, Cadott; Mrs. Robert (Lois) Kohnhorst, Wausau, and Mr. Arvi (Grace) Finnila, Owen; three sisters, Mrs. Mamie Blum and Mrs. Clara Schroeder of Neillsville, and Mrs. Johanna Marten, Maywood, Ill.; one brother, George Roepke, Des Plaines, Ill.; and 22 grandchildren.
