Russell Louis Cummins Sr., 73, of Onawa died suddenly Thursday, July 1, 2004 at his residence.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Rush Family Chapel in Onawa, with the Rev. Dennis Olsen officiating. Burial will be in Onawa Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the U.S. Army. Russel was born May 28, 1931, at Turin,Iowa, the son of Alexander and Lillian Estelle (Thompson) Cummins.
He married Elsie Clayton on Nov.24, 1953 at Onawa. He served in the U.S. Army over 20 years and retired with the rank of staff sergeant. He Owned and operated the Chalet Restaurant in Onawa for nine years. He was a member of First Christian Church, American Legion David McNeill Post 129,Veterans of Foreigh Wars Post 2694 of Monona County and the Lions Club.
Survivors include his wife, Elsie of Onawa; three daughters Kim Estelle Meyers of Orlando, Fla., Rebecca and her husband Mike Parr, of Arlington, Texas and Megan Estelle Cummins of Onawa; four sons and their wives,Russell jr, and Rose of Decatur,Neb.,Daniel and Karen of Bellevue, Neb., Ervin and Denis of Sibley, Iowa and Robert and Darla of Onawa; 14 grandchildern eight step great-grandchildern; a brother, Raymond of DesMoiens, Iowa; A sister, Gladys Cogdill of Vancouver Washington; and a very special family friend, Wayne Jepson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Helen; a brother,Robert; and two sisters, Ruth Funkhouser and Aurenia Rubens.
