John S. Smallwood, 84, passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Brooks Epley here Sept. 20. Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 3:00 o'clock at the Hall Funeral Home. Burial will be in Highland cemetery with the Rev. Truman S. Lowell officiating.
The son of the late Isaac and Nancy Smallwood, Mr. Smallwood was born in Nellsville, Ohio, June 4, 1870. He married Edith Mayhaw July 4, 1889. He was a farmer and mill hand and had spent most of his life in Gladwin. In 1924 he went to Grayling where he lived until July when he returned to Gladwin.
Besides his wife, Edith, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Zelpha Epley of Gladwin, and Mrs. Leoda Farrow of Farwell; a son, John of Flint; two brothers, Ells of Gladwin and Isaac of Flint; also 22 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.
