SUSAN ELIZABETH MIDDLETON HAYS was the 3rd of 12 children born to Richard Greenberry Middleton, Sr. and Alsay Ann Meredith. Her father moved the family from Wayne Co., TN to Graves Co., TN in the mid 1840's. There Susan met her husband Lewis Eden Hays, son of Moses Hays and Adeline Martha Keesee.
Susan and Lewis, and most of their family members moved over to Ballard Co., KY before 1860. Susan and Lewis were the parents of 7 children (all Linked to them below). They had 35 grandchildren.
Lewis was a farmer. They were members of the Bethlehem Baptist Church in Carlisle. Susan and Lewis both lived to the age of 90 and were married for more than 65 years.

Inscription
Tombstone is S. E. Hays, wife of L. E. Hays (Lewis).. In the Ballard Co. Cemetery book, this tombstone was inadvertently transcribed as "J" instead of "S".
