RICHARD GREENBERRY MIDDLETON, Sr. was born Nov. 4, 1813 in Georgia.
Richard's father (proven by DNA) was Hanson Middleton who was born in SC.  On the 1840 Census of Wayne Co. TN, Richard is living next door to Hanson, who is listed as age 80 to 89. Richard's grandparents were Lt. Col. Hugh Teare Middleton, Sr,, a Soldier of the Revolution, and his 1st wife Lydia Coghill

Richard has one proven sibling, sister Catherine born 1815 in GA.  Catherine Middleton married Lemuel Oliver Goodman in 1836 in Wayne Co., TN.  Catherine and her family also came to Graves Co., KY in the mid 1840's, and were neighbors of Richard.  The Goodman family moved on to Livingston Co., KY, where Catherine died between 1870-1873.

Richard 1st appears on the 1836 Tax List and 1840 Census of Wayne Co., TN.  He may have lived in Perry Co. TN for a few years in the 1840's.  

Richard married Alsay Ann Meredith about 1835 in TN.  Alsay Ann was born Sept. 15, 1818 in TN.  Alsay was the daughter of Rev. Frederick Morton Meredith who died 1826 in Wayne Co. TN; and Mary Fulton.  Alsay's grandfathers were Joseph Abraham Meredith and Frederick Murray Fulton.
When Richard and Alsay left TN, and came to Graves Co., KY, they brought Alsay's widowed mother, Mary Fulton Meredith with them.   Mary is in their household on the 1850 Census, listed as born 1776 in North Carolina.  She died between 1850 and 1860.

Richard moved his family to Ballard Co., KY before 1860.  His land later became part of Carlisle County., KY  He was a farmer.  Alsay died between 1870 and 1880.  By 1900 Richard was living in Cunningham with youngest daughter Ellen Oliver Middleton and her husband Stephen Ransom.  
Richard's death date is recorded in the records of Bethlehem Baptist Church, but the records do not specify exactly where he was buried.
 
Richard and Alsay had 11 children:
William Benjamin, 1837-1927; Susan Elizabeth, 1839-1929; Henry Robert "Samuel", 1842-1912; Hanson A. 1844-1926;  Richard Greenberry, Jr., b. 1846, died between 1875-1880; Mary C., b. 1849; Malinda Jane, 1851-1929; America A., b. 1855, died between 1880 to 1883; Sarah Lyla, b. 1857, died before 1880; Ellen Oliver, 1859-1922; and George B., born 1865, died between 1910 to 1920.

Richard and his father Hanson were not Slave owners

Richard's sons William and Hanson fought in the Civil War with the CSA.
