Nicholas Malas, Dies
Nicholas Malas, 71, of 121 E. Gilman st., a longtime owner of apartment houses and student rooming houses in the campus district, was found dead by his wife about 2 p.m. Wednesday in the basement of one of his buildings at 153 E. Gilman st. Coroner Clyde Chamberlain Jr. said Mr. Malas died of a heart attack while doing repair work in the basement. Mr. Malas was born in Greece and was married to Mary Hron in Sun Prairie in 1920. He had lived in Madison since 1917. He was a World War I veteran. Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Glen Reader, Almond; two sons, James, Stoughton; and John, 10 E. Gorham st.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. The funeral will be Friday in the Frautschi funeral with the Rev. Nicholas Katinas of the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, officiating. Burial will be in Resurrection cemetery.
