~MY ANCESTOR~
The son of WILLIAM JONES, he married SARAH (unknown) sometime before 1619. She was born around 1601 in London. They were the parents of
RUTH (JONES) JAMES - my ancestor
Sarah (Jones) Bulkley Wilson
John Jones, Jr.
Rebecca (Jones) Hull Hill

On the 10th of August, 1635, Rev. Jones, and his family departed from London, England aboard the ship “Defence”, commanded by Captain Thomas Bostock. His wife and children are on the passenger list as follows: Sarah age 34, children Sarah 15, John 11, Ruth 7, Theophilus 3, Rebecca 2, and Elizabeth 1/2. Eliphalet was born in Concord.
In 1636, he became the first minister of Concord, Ma. In 1644, he lead several families to Fairfield, Conn., where he became its first minister, and ministered there until his death.
Susanah did not marry Rev Jones until after 1650, New Haven town records show her living on Town Relief. Her husband, Arthur Holbidge died in 1648, leaving her nothing.

"Ye Old BURYING GROUND OF FAIRFIELD, CONN." by Mrs. Kate Perry, p. 227-228: "He was a native of Wales, was educated and episcopally ordained in England and came, with other nonconforming clergymen of the national church, to this Country in 1635. ...It was he that attended the execution of Goody Knapp who was condemned as a witch, and tendered the poor victum such kindly ministrations as his concience permitted...NO STONE MARKS HIS GRAVE."
----------------------------------------------
Rev. John Jones arrived in Concord, Massachusetts with 8-9 children on the ship "Defence" in 1635, per The Great Migration Study. He became the first minister of Fairfield, Connecticut, 5 years after it was settled in 1639. He arrived in Fairfield from Concord Mass. in 1644 with a group of 8-10 families, These families settled in Fairfield, Black Rock, Greenlea and Stratfield - all part of Fairfield at the time. The families supposedly left Concord not only due to poor soil for farming, but were unhappy with having to support 2 ministers there - the Rev. Jones as well as Rev. Bulkeley. Jones widow Susannah was the mother of Mercy Disbrow, accused of witchcraft in Fairfield in 1692, and later reprieved.
