Funeral services for Mrs. S. L. Durham, 64 years of age, were held Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Shiloh church with the Rev. Veachel Jones in charge of the service. Burial was in the church cemetery. A large crowd attended the last rites and many beautiful floral offerings were sent. Mrs. Durham died at her home in the Shiloh community Wednesday afternoon, June 3, at 4:30 o'clock. She had been in bad health for the past few years. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. James R. Bailey. She made a profession of faith early in life and was a member of the Shiloh Cumberland Presbyterian Church where she was a faithful member. She was beloved by many and was widely known in the county. For years, Mrs. Durham was a loyal correspondent for the News-Journal and wrote up until her most recent illness news items from the Shiloh community. Mrs. Durham, born Eliza Cleopatra Bailey, was married to S. L. Durham in 1895 and to this union two sons and five daughters were born. Surviving are her husband; son, Wilson Durham, county; and daughters: Miss Catherine Durham, at home; Mrs. Elizabeth Russell, Greensburg; Mrs. Cora Campbell, county; and Mrs. Mabel Newcomb, county. Clelland Durham preceded his mother Sept. 8, 1939, and Mrs. Nellie Russell on March 6, 1922. She also leaves a brother: R. S. Bailey, Campbellsville, and a sister, Mrs. G. L. Hord, Indianapolis, seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Pallbearers were active: Albert Russell, Selby Mitchell, Guy Smith, Earlie Blakeman, Arthur Carter, Noah Smith; honorary: Ira Russell, Robert Smith, Frank Jones, and Sam Newton. Flowerbearers were: Mrs. Selby Mitchell, Mrs. Ruth Newcomb, Mrs. Allen Monson, Mrs. Nellie Claycomb, Mrs. Guy Smith, Mrs. Paul Squires, Mrs. George Faulkner, Mrs. Jimmy Turner, Mrs. Joseph Kleier, and Mrs. Henry Miller. ~The News-Journal, Thursday, June 11, 1942
