Mary Elizabeth Sandy Ritter, 92, of Winchester, Virginia, died Tuesday, May 15, 2012, in Winchester Medical Center.

Mrs. Ritter was born in 1920, in Frederick County, Virginia, the daughter of the late Melvin K. and Cora M. Sandy.

She was a receptionist with Winchester Memorial Hospital now Winchester Medical Center for 15 years. She was a member of Stephens City United Methodist Church and the Winchester Civic League. Mrs. Ritter was a graduate of Stephens City High School, Class of 1936.

Her husband, George H. Ritter, whom she married on November 19, 1942, preceded her in death April 1974.

Surviving is her daughter, Mary Rebecca "Becky" Barham and her husband Lonnie, and son, G. Stephen Ritter, all of Winchester; Philip H. Ritter and wife Susan of Stephens City, Virginia; seven grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and one brother, William E. Sandy of Winchester, Virginia.

Three sisters, Frances S. Shiley, Louise S. Buckley, Katherine S. Yancey, and six brothers, Robert L., Melvin K., Charles R., John M., Raymond T., and James H. Sandy preceded her in death.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday at Stephens City United Methodist Church in Stephens City with Reverend Jeffery Butcher and Reverend Waverly Reames officiating. Interment will be in Mount Hebron Cemetery at 2:00 p.m.

The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
