William was born in Tonge, Bolton, Lancashire, England.
Christened December 3, 1820.
Parents: Thomas Ogden and Olive Lomax.
Became an orphan, 1832, age 11.
Worked in a dye shop where yarn was dyed.
Married Mary Vickers, 1844, age 23.
Lived in an apartment called Hallith Wood near Bolton, England.
Became a weaver in the Ashley Cotton Mill.
Mary stayed home to care for the house and children.
Converted to the L.D.S. Church in 1848, age 28.
Served as branch financial clerk to care for the Perpetual Emigration funds.
Became the father of seven children. The children attended school and worked with their father in the cotton mill. They tended 14 power looms in that dusty, noisy mill. They were fortunate and happy to have jobs.
William worked at other jobs part-time doing carpentry, cabinet making and other things.
Served as president of the Bolton L.D.S. Branch.
Came to Utah in 1868, age 47, with his wife and children.
Lived in Santaquin, Utah.
They became farmers.
He became a U.S. citizen May 2, 1871.
Moved to Richfield in 1872, age 51. Lived in the Richfield and Richfield 1st wards.
He built a house and dug a well for clean clear water. Many people got water from that well.
They farmed and he also worked as a carpenter, building houses in Richfield.
Served as Elders Quorum president and served on the town council. He dearly loved his wife and helped with household tasks because he believed that his sweetheart had more to do than she was able. He loved to bake cookies and pies. They grew vegetables and fruit trees in their garden.
Died April 20, 1888, age 67, in Richfield.
Buried in the Richfield City Cemetery.
