DEATH CLOSES USEFUL LIFE OF WILLIAM OGDEN

Prominent Citizen Died Tuesday Morning; Funeral Services Will Be Held Sunday

William Ogden, a man outstanding for his activities in church and civic life; a citizen of his community, state and national in the highest sence of the word, passed away early New Year's morning, after long suffering, but carrying his fate with the courage inspired by deep religious convictions. Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the First ward chapel.

William Ogden was born the fifth of seven children of William and Mary Wickers Ogden, October 25, 1854, in Hall i' th' Wood, Lancashire, England. He had two older and two younger brothers and two older sisters; of all of them only two brothers, Thomas Ogden of Ocean Park, California and Joseph Ogden of Richfield survive him.

After having been converted to the Latter-Day Saints church in February 1863, the family immigrated to Utah in July 1868, arriving here in September of the same year and settling first in Santaquin. In 1871 the family moved to Richfield and William Ogden has been a resident here ever since. A faithful member of his church who filled missions to England from 1889 to 1891 and to the central states from 1907 to 1909. Twice he was a member of the bishopric of the First ward and was most active in several other church offices as teacher, secretary and superintendent of the Mutuals of the Sunday school and of the high council. In civic and community life he was most prominent as the prime mover of the building of the Otter Creek reservoir and the Sevier Valley canal and as one of we the founders and manager of the Sevier Dairy and Produce Co. In this last capacity he remained until about a year ago when the holdings of the company were sold to the Sego Milk Products Co. He was active in Farm bureau life, manager of the old coop store, was a member of our school board before and after consolidation for 22 years; was county commissioner for two terms and member of the city council for several terms.

October 25, 1877, he married Emma Frazer and from this union five children, with the widow, survive. They are Mrs. C. P. Christensen, Junius F. Ogden, Mrs. Geo P. Hansen, Mrs. Heber C. Wilson and Owen Ogden, all of Richfield.
