Obituary of Harriet A. Detwiler

Mrs. Harriet A. Detwiler, 89, of Box 166, Martinsburg RR 2, died Thursday evening, June 26, 2003, at Bon Secours-Holy Family Hospital, Altoona.

She was born July 6, 1913, in Bloomfield Township, Bedford County, a daughter of the late James Harry and Hattie Maria (Imler) Allison.

She married J. Emory Detwiler Nov. 19, 1930, in Cumberland, Md. He died Oct. 5, 1998.

Mrs. Detwiler was a member of First Church of the Brethren, Roaring Spring, where she was a past member of the former Women's Aid Group. She was a former member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Martinsburg.

She formerly assisted her husband in the daily operation of the family farm.

Mrs. Detwiler attended Martinsburg High School.

She enjoyed quilting and cloth handpainting.

Mrs. Detwiler was a former member of the Blair County Extension Agency.

Surviving are a son, E. Eugene (wife, Drucilla) of Hollidaysburg RR 1; two grandsons: Marshall (wife, Shelly) and Douglas (wife, Maureen); seven great-grandchildren; Jeremiah, Aubry, Nathaniel, Ariana and Adam, Marc and Kaitlyn; a brother J. "Jim" Harding of Altoona; a sister, F. Adelene Turnbaugh of Hamburg, N. Y.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son, G. Don, on June 13, 1997; and 10 brothers and sisters.

Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the John C. Bolger Funeral Home, Martinsburg, where funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Mondy by Pastor Galen H. Brumbaugh.

Interment will be made in Brumbaugh Cemetery, Martinsburg RR 2.

The family suggests memorial contributions be given to the First Church of the Brethren memorial fund.
