He died at Veterans Administration Hospital, Louisville. He was a farmer and a veteran of World War II.

Survivors included his wife, Mary Agnes Young; a son, James R. Young of Cloverport; a daughter, Mrs Mary Helen Duffy of Huntington, Mass; seven grandchildren; a brother, Albert Young of Cannelton, Ind, and five sisters, Mrs Ada Gray of Hawesville, Mrs Louise Dawson and Eloise King, both of Cannelton, and Mrs Ida Stevens and Robertine Mullen both of Lexington.
