Chris Asmussen was born in Benton County, Iowa in 1887. His family moved near Everly, Iowa where he attended school; the family later moved to Sioux City, where he lived until he enlisted in the Army during World War I, serving in France. After his discharge , he worked with a firm engaged in improving rural roads and came to Lakota when Highway 9 was graded and improved.
He was married to Esther Olthoff in 1922. They lived in Lakota their entire married life.
He worked as a carpenter until his retirement. He was also Lakota village constable for many years.
Chris was a member of American Legion for over 50 years and served as a commander of the Lakota Post. He died in 1971.
