Her father wanted to name her Josephine but her mom said no because she didn't want folks to call her Jo. So they named her Ethel after a relative. Well her dad in full defiance called her Jo anyway. The name stuck - everyone called her Jo. She played the piano and played softball - she was the "son" of the family. After graduating she moved with her sister Grace to California where the jobs were. Grace met he future husband there and Jo moved to the Seattle area. During the war she worked for the government and met a man who had 3 kids and had just lost his wife. They fell in love and married. Jo and Emmett had two children and moved eventually to Layton Utah. Emmett got sick and his two sons stepped in to help raise the kids and take care of her. She worked hard all her life at Hill AFB in Ogden. She moved to Virginia to live with her daughter. She was very ill the last years of her life and died from heart failure. She was well loved by her "kids" and their kids and their kids. She is buried next to her husband who she loved dearly.
