Lucinda Stairwalt Knable was born in Alton, Ohio, Dec. 5 1842, being the oldest daughter Esther and Mervin Stairwalt. She came to Peoria, Illinois, with her parents, when about ten years old, where they lived about one year, after which they moved to Uniontown, Knox county, where they resided until 1856, when they moved to Yates City. She was married to Melchor Knable, April 4, 1863, and has resided here until her death, except one year spent in Missouri.

She died at the family home residence in Yates City, Illinois, Feb. 1, 1911, aged 68 years, 1 month and 26 days. Her husband and father preceded her to the land of eternal rest about one year and a half ago. She leaves one daughter, Mrs. E. F. Cunningham of Canton, Illinois and one son, John E. Knable of this city, besides a brother, William Stairwalt of Shelbyville, Illinois, one sister, Mrs. A. J. Jacobs of this place, and four grand-children to mourn her loss. She was a dovoted wife, a considerate and tender mother and a kind and helpful neighbor. Her children spared no sacrifice to make her comfortable as possible through her long sickness.

The funeral service was conducted by Rev. S. A. Teague at the home Friday Feb. 4, 1911 at 2 o'clock, p.m., after which the body was laid to rest in the Yates City Cemetery.
