He was wounded in action in France sustaining a gun shot wound to the back. Reports indicate he was suffering from paraplegia, he was transferred from France to England for return to Australia.
On arrival in Melbourne he was immediately sent to No. 11 AGH Caulfield for treatment, he died there of complications from his back wounds together with exhaustion & heart failure.
Medals: 1914/15 Star, British War Medal, Victory Medal.
He is commemorated on the Roll of Honour in Wonthaggi Vic, also his name is located at panel 53 in the Commemorative Area at the Australian War Memorial.
