Amanda Spencer was born in approximately 1796 in Guilford, New Haven, CT to Uriah Spencer and Deborah Eliot/Elliot Spencer. The Uriah Spencer family moved to Tioga County (then called Lycoming Co, PA) around 1797 or 1798. When Amanda was about 6 years old, her mother Deborah died (November 1802). Her father remarried in about 1804 to Eleanor Boher. According to the book, Biographical Sketches of Richard Ellis: The First Settler of Ashfield, Mass, Amanda graduated from high school in Hartford, CT. At about age 17, Amanda married Asaph Chilson Ellis on April 7, 1813 in most likely Tioga County, PA. Amanda and Asaph had 12 children. In about 1834 Asaph and Amanda moved to Allegany Co, NY and lived there about a year. In 1835 the family moved by raft down the Allegany River to Sharpsburg, PA and a few months later settled in Bell Twp, Clearfield Co, PA (Nov 5, 1835). They lived on 500 acres.
