James W. Barker, 83, passed away at his home, on Thursday, December 12, 2002. He was predeceased by his parents, Milton and Jessie Barker; three brothers, Milton, Carl, and Robert. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Gertrude I. (MacMyne) Barker; a son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Patty Barker, Endwell; a daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and William Jones, Cromwell, Conn; three grandchildren, Rachael, Charlotte, and Russell Jones; four sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law; several nieces, nephews and cousins; a special nephew, Carl Barker, Latrobe, Pa. He was a member of Centenary Chenango St. United Methodist Church, a veteran of WWII, serving in the US Army Air Corps., receiving several medals of honor, including a Distinguished Flying Cross, Purple Heart, and a European, African, Middle-Eastern service medal, a member of American Legion Post 80, a former employee of Links and a retired employee of Electro-Mech, Inc.
Funeral services will be held at the J.F. Rice Funeral Home, Inc., 150 Main St., Johnson City, on Monday, at 12:30 p.m. The Rev. Gary Doupe, pastor of his church, will officiate. Burial will be in Vestal Hills Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, from 3 to 5 p.m. Those wishing may make memorial contributions to the Hospice Program, c/o Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, 169 Riverside Dr., Binghamton, N.Y. 13905, or the American Heart Association, 59 Court St., Binghamton, N.Y. 13901 in James Barker's memory
