Jane Gonzales was the daughter of James and Agnes "Nancy" (Macklin) Gonsalus. On 24 Jan 1828 she married Richard Gonzales in West Union, Columbiana County, Ohio. Richard was the son of Samuel Gonsalus and Rachel Lucas. Richard and Jane were first cousins.
Jane and Richard had six children: John, Nancy, Samuel, Silas Wright, Benjamin and Richard.
After they married Richard and Jane went to Beaver County, PA where we know Samuel was born in 1830 and Silas in 1833. Beaver County lies just east of Columbiana County, OH across the border with Pennsylvania.
It is likely that Richard and Jane were in Pennsylvania for only 5 years.
Sometime between 1833 and 1838 Jane and Richard removed to Gasconade County, Missouri. Their sons Benjamin and Richard were born in Missouri.
Richard was killed near his home 1841 by a fur trader. The fur trader came across the Missouri River and engaged in an argument regarding fur traps. The argument ended in a hand shake but when Richard turned to return to his house the man shot him in the back.
After Richard's death Jane moved her family from Missouri to Carroll County, Ohio.
Jane spent her last days in Iowa with her son Richard.
