Francis A. Dirr of Westbury passed away on June 2, 2004 after a 10 month battle with cancer. He was 77 years old.
Mr. Dirr was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend, neighbor and an active member of the Kiwanis Club of Westbury-Carle Place for over 10 years, serving as vice president for two. The Dirrs have lived in the Westbury community for over 16 years and were involved in many community service projects at St. Brigid's Church and school, Westbury High School, Carle Place Middle and High School, Westbury Neighborhood House and the Westbury Senior Center.
Mr. Dirr received both the World War II Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal for his service in the United States Army Signal Service Company from 1945-1947.
Mr. Dirr is survived by his wife, Jeanne; four children, six stepchildren and 17 grandchildren. He was a seven of 13 siblings and is survived by one brother and five sisters.
