Thu., July 5 (5-3): John F. Ficklen died yesterday at Eagle Lake. The remains arrived in Waco last night, for burial at Oakwood cemetery today. Funeral from the residence of W. H. Wood, 807 Speight. Was the father of Fielding Ficklen of Waco.

FICKLEN, JOHN F.
Mr. John F. Ficklen was born in Washington county, Ga., in 1844. When the late war broke out, he entered the Confederate army at the early age of 16, serving three years, when he was so severely wounded that he was discharged from the service. He returned to his old Georgia home, and in 1886 emigrated to Texas, settling in Eagle Lake, and entered into the service of what was then known as the Galveston, Harrisburg and San Antonio railway. After severing his connection with this company he entered into commercial pursuits, which, in connection with planting, he has since continued. At the solicitation of friends, upon the organization of his town into a municipal government, he became an Alderman of his town. Mr. Ficklen ranks as one of the wealthiest and most progressive citizens of Colorado county. (The Colorado Citizen, Columbus, Tex, Oct 22, 1889 )
