Roy was a farm helper. Ruth's father owned several acres and Roy helped him on the farm (It was customary in those days that after working on a farm that you also lived on that farm.)
Roy and Ruth went to square dances with the group on her father's farm. Later they went as a couple.
He married Ruth Eagan on April 29,1917 in Salem, Marion Co, Illinois.
Their children: Roy William Modglin (1918-1990); Sylvia Louise Logue (1920-2001); Edward McReese Modglin (1923-1998); Charles Warren Modglin (1924-1993); Betty Geraldine Threewitts; Katherine 'Katie' Hardy; John Noah Modglin (1931-1934); Opal Jean Germain and Joseph Bennie 'Ben' Modglin.
Roy was a retired plant engineer at Citizens Gas and Coke Utility at Indianapolis, Indiana. He worked for the utility 20 years, retiring in 1967. He was formerly a plant engineer for the A & P Tea Co warehouse for 19 years and at Bridgeport Brass.
He was an Army veteran of World War I and lived in Indianapolis from 1919 to 1967 when he moved to Morgan Co, Indiana.
After his wife, Ruth, died he lived alone for about 6 years. His health was failing and he went to North Salem to live with his son, Ed, and his wife, Ida. He lived there only a few months. He died at home. He fell asleep in a chair.
