Robert is listed as a second cook on the ship, Dorothy Calice, owned by Sudden & Christenson. docked in San Francisco, CA

Robert's obituary is as follows:

Marion Star - July 2, 1945
Robert F. Grubaugh, Jr. Dies in New Orleans
Mr. and Mrs. Robert J. Grubaugh of 579 West Columbia Street received word Saturday of the death of their son, Robert F. Grubaugh, Jr., 39, of New Orleans, LA, which occurred Friday morning in a hospital in that city. The message did not state of the cause of death. Word from the family earlier told of his being in the hospital for the last two weeks and state he expected to undergo an operation this week for a head injury suffered six years ago aboard a ship.
Mr. Grubaugh had been employed in the shipyards at New Orleans. Prior to that time he was a ship's steward for many years and had visited practically all of the principal countries in the world. He was born in Delaware, and after the family moved to Marion in 1910, attended the Marion schools.
Surviving with the parents are the widow, Mrs. Anna Bowers Grubaugh, a stepson, Joe Grubaugh, three sisters, Mrs. Helen Thomson of New York City, Mrs. Mary Cooper of Caledonia, Mrs. Dorothy Thomas of Bath Avenue and a brother, Walter Grubaugh of Elm Street.
Funeral service and burial were held at New Orleans Sunday at 4 p.m.

Robert married Anna Bowers. I do not yet have a date for this marriage. His only child, Joseph Anthony Grubaugh was born 19 Mar 1939 and the son is listed in Robert's obituary as a step-son. It's probable that Joseph was born to Anna and then adopted by Robert Franklin Grubaugh, Jr. Perhaps the 1940 census will add some clarity to this.
