George L. Kestner, the senior member of the firm of George L. Kestner & Co., wholesale liquor dealers, 142 North Sixth street, died of acute indigestion, Monday morning, aged 70 years, at his residence, 137 North Sixth street. Mr. Kestner was a native of Germany a came to this country when 18 years of age, locating in Lewisville, Ohio. There he engaged in the saw mill business. He came to this city in 1870 and em- barked in the liquor business at Fourth and Penn street, with B. F. Oblinger, under the firm name of Oblinger & Kestner. He was there five years, when he started in for himself on the east side of South Sixth street below Penn, and then located at 142 North Sixth street, where he has been ever since. He represented the Seventh ward in Common Council for two terms following 1878.
Mr. Kestner is survived by his wife, Elizabeth, and these children: Elizabeth, George L., Jr., and Charles J., this city; Anna, wife of C. W. Allen, West Milton, and Christian T., of Corrington, Conn. Deceased was a member of St. John Lutheran church and Teutonia Lodge, F. and A. m.
