In June of 1881, Miss Zilphia Amanda Huggins was crowned the Queen of May at an exercise held at the Old Johnsonville Church. Miss Rosabelle Eaddy and Miss M.E. Donahoe were named her Maids of Honor. She was presented with a bouquet of flowers and received the honor with grace and dignity. The young ladies had to read 20 verses from the bible and all proceeds from the event were used to buy books for the school.
Zilphia Amanda Huggins was a musically gifted child that learned to play the accordion when she was young. John Brown Davis loved music and dancing and fell in love with her when she was just 15 years old. He was 30. He vowed to wait for her and he did. They were married in the Ebenezer Methodist Church at Muddy Creek and were married for 32 years and had 10 children.
John and Amanda attended the Old Johnsonville Methodist Church and are both buried in the Old Johnsonville Cemetery located across the street from the church.
