Carl John Jackson, Jr.
(14 April 1928 - 07 May 2012)

***

Carl J. Jackson, Jr., 84, of Pittsburg, KS, died at 12:03 p.m. Monday, May 7, 2012 at the Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg.

He was born April 14, 1928 at Pittsburg, KS, to Carl John and Oral (Williamson) Jackson, Sr.

He attended Pittsburg High School and graduated in 1947.

On September 5, 1948, he married Tedda "Tela" Lee Robinson at the First Christian Church in Pittsburg. She preceded him in death on April 25, 2008.

When Carl Jr. returned home from the Navy at the end of World War II he first went to work at his father's electrician shop in Pittsburg. Carl Sr. opened the store in 1945 and called it Modern Electric. He changed the name three years later to Jackson Electric and Carl Jr. began running the business in 1963 when his father semi-retired. Jackson Electric had many good customers over the years. Some of the larger jobs have been for firms like Pitt Plastics, Vinylplex, The Morning Sun, and especially McNally Pittsburg Manufacturing.

One thing that the elder Jackson passed on to his son was a dedication to the NECA and the IBEW. He and his father were involved in both organizations, particularly as they developed the apprenticeship program that still exists today.

Jackson Electric closed in 2003 and in retirement Carl enjoyed fishing and riding motorcycles.

In a Morning Sun article from 2003 Carl said "I gave it a helluva run." "And I couldn't have made it without the help of all the people. I've enjoyed them, and I hope they've enjoyed me and the company.

Membership was held in the First Christian Church, past member of NECA and on the Board of Directors, past president of the Pittsburg Chamber of Commerce, member of the Pittsburg Rotary (Paul Harris Fellow), 50 year member of Masonic Blue Lodge #187, 50 year member of the Royal Arch Masons, and 50 year member of the Montjoie Commandery #29 Knights Templar.

He is survived by a son, Dr. Gary Jackson and his wife, Dr. Vickie S. Williams, of Ruidoso, NM; his daughter, Vicki Willard and husband, Mike of Olathe, KS; four grandchildren, Jennifer Unruh of Springhill, KS, Michael Willard, Jr. of Lee's Summit, MO, Heather Jackson of New York, NY, and Elizabeth Jackson of Ruidoso, NM; and five great-grandchildren, Jerod Unruh, Jacob Unruh, Jackson Ditillio, Christian Willard, and Chloe Willard.

He was preceded in death by his wife and parents.

A Memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday (May 11) at the Brenner Mortuary with Rev. Kevin Arensman officiating.

The family will receive friends following the service.

Burial will be at a later date in the Highland Park Cemetery.

The family suggests memorials to the Shriner's Transportation Fund. These may be left at or mailed to the Brenner Mortuary, 114 East 4th Street, Pittsburg, KS 66762.
