Luman Crittenden was the the second child of Amos and Sary Crittenden. Luman married Experience Sherman January 22,1829. In May 1836, Luman with his family started for Michigan. After a long and slow journey lasting until October of the later year, they found themselves in the wilderness of the Forks. There was just one log cabin there and the foundation of the "Old Red Mill", had just been started and Luman got a job in the mill.
