Mabel (Worcester) Thomas, 91, of Wollaston, who was an assistant librarian for the New England Historical Genealogical Society in Boston for 19 years, died Tuesday at the home of her son, Alfred C. Thomas Jr. of Hingham, after a long illness.
She was a substitute teacher for many years in Somerville, Holbrook, Quincy and New Hampshire.
Mrs. Thomas was a member of the Quincy Community United Methodist Church and the Order of Eastern Star in Somerville and Dover, N.H.
She was a graduate of Salem State College and Keene (N.H.) State College.
Mrs. Thomas was born in Somerville and lived in Wollaston for 43 years. She and her husband, Alfred C. Thomas Sr., lived with their son since June.
She is survived by two daughters, Helen M. Wesley of Alexandria, Va., and Ethel J. Fletcher of Pembroke; a brother, Wayne J. Worcester of Braintree; and eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. She was the grandmother of the late Alvin C. Thomas.
The Rev. David Hoyt, pastor of Quincy Community United Methodist Church, will conduct a funeral service at 11 a.m. Tomorrow at the Deware Funeral Home, 576 Hancock St., Wollaston. Burial will be in Blue Hill Cemetery in Braintree.
Visiting hours are from 7 to 9 tonight at the funeral home.
