James was born in Detroit, the son of Albert and Hilda (Stackus) Dana. He grew up in Boyne City. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Lucky 7th Armored Infantry and attained the rank of corporal. On July 10, 1947, he married Melba Williams in Bowling Green, Ohio, and they would have celebrated 57 years of marriage next month. They lived in Saginaw where he was employed at General Motors Fisher Body for 33 years until his retirement in 1976. He was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and enjoyed spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife, Melba; three sons and four daughters and their spouses, Stephen and Sue Dana of Saginaw, Kimberley and John Witt of West Bloomfield, James and Laura Dana of Saline, Melissa and Ray Berns of Boyne City, Stuart Dana of Lady Lakes, Fla., Joan and Al Ramonaitis of The Villages of Florida, Marilyn Myers of Hesperia, Calif.; 16 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters and one brother, Jacqueline Sargent of Canoga Park, Calif., Mary Louise Overly of St. Petersburg, Fla., Gordon and Sandy Dana of The Villages of Florida; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by a brother, William Dana, in 1942.
