Son of David Huguelet of Switzerland and Marion Secort or Sarcay of Switzerland.

Louis E Huguelet was a Civil War veteran, serving as a Federal soldier, and after returing from a Confederate prison camp, he married Barbara Sabrina Neeb around 1867, with whom he carried on a wartime correspondence. The young couple settled near 26th St. and Wentworth Ave. They survived the great Chicago fire, although all their household goods, with the exception of a sewing machine and table, were lost in the flames.

He was the father of nine sons and two daughters.
