James Edward Calhoun, son of James Ewing Calhoun and Floride Boinneau Calhoun, was both a 2nd cousin and a brother-in-law of John Caldwell Calhoun. James Edward Calhoun should be remembered in Greenwood as an early friend and benefactor. At his death Oct 31, 1889, at his home in “Millwood” on Savannah River, James Edward Calhoun willed his library to the town of Greenwood.
James Edward Calhoun was born July 4, 1798. He married Maria Simkins of Edgefield and they had one child. The mother and child died shortly after the child’s birth.
James Edward Calhoun never married again.
