Lt. Commander Raymond C. Whalin United States Navy
Ray Whalin passed away on April 23, 2012. He had been suffering from declining health for about three years, and had been confined at the United States Veteran's Domiciliary in Boulder City, Nevada during his illness.
Ray was born in Tenino, WA on November 10, 1920 to Raymond Arthur Whalin and Gladys Downey Whalin. He is a direct descendant of Charles Whalin and Hester Ticknor Whalin, old-time farmers in the Skookumchuck River Valley. He attended school in Tenino, and graduated from Tenino High School with the Class of 1938. Ray was married to Betty Jane Moats on September 14, 1941. Betty passed away in 2006.
Ray is survived by his daughter, Ralynn (Deke) (LA, Canada, CA.). His other survivors are sons, Lance Whalin and Patrick J. Whalin (San Francisco), Craig (Naomi) Whalin (Pleasant Hill, CA) and Michael Whalin (Anchorage, AK), and numerous grandchildren and great-grand-children. Also surviving are Ray's brother-in-law, Richard (Elva) Moats and the members of their extended family.
Ray joined the U.S. Navy in 1939 and retired about 1965, after 26 years of service. He served in the South Pacific, the Phillipines, Guam and Japan. He then went to work for the State of Washington. He retired from state employment after about 10 years.
A Memorial Service will be conducted on May 8, 2012 at the Veteran's Cemetery in Boulder City, Nevada.
