"SCAMMON TEEN DIES FROM INJURIES SUFFERED IN WRECK"
A 15-year-old boy has died from injuries he suffered in an automobile accident Wednesday morning, the second fatality in the two-vehicle wreck that injured two others.
Christopher Wayne McCormick, of Scammon, died at St. John's Medical Center at Joplin, Mo., Wednesday night. McCormick was a passenger in a car driven by David Issac Knight, 16, of Scammon, that struck a pickup truck driven by Archie Shepard, 76, of Dennis.
Shepard's wife, 71-year-old Jean Shepard of Dennis, a passenger in the pickup, died at the scene of the accident, about 10 miles east of Parsons on U.S. Highway 400.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the accident occurred shortly before 7 a.m. when Knight's car crossed the center line and struck Shepard's pickup truck head-on. Knight and Archie Shepard were hospitalized at Labette County Medical Center at Parsons.
