Dorothy was the youngest daughter of Dan and Freida Eiland. Her parents believed she got the infection from drinking contaminated water. The entire family with the exception of Dorothy's father got sick. They only thing they could think of that would have got them all sick except Dan was the water. Dan only drank coffee, therefore his water was always boiled which would have killed any bacteria present. Dan took care of his wife and children while they were sick. Sadly, Dorothy's immune system was not strong enough to fight off the bacterial infection.
