died aged 71 of pneumonia at the home of his sister-in-law Mrs Susie Burnham; had been meat dealer in South Deerfield; had gone to California a month earlier to spend the winter there, had traveled by boat via the Panama Canal; at age 21 had gone to Springfield Mass to work at J. C. Whitcomb grocery store on Harrison Avenue, a few years later returned to South Deerfield and worked for the late Col. A. C. Boyden in the meat business, later became partner in A. C. Boyden & Co.; afterwards bought the business with his brother-in-law the late Herbert Jenkins of Springfield, established the firm of George E May & Company, sold out two years ago to Goodyear Bros; survivors were widow, adopted son William May of Hartford, Ct., four sisters Mrs. Joseph Allen of Shelburne Falls, Mrs Ida Jenkins and Mrs Anna Williams of Springfield, and Miss Loella May, a brother William C of South Deerfield; served as a trustee of Produce National bank for more than 20 years; charter member of Wequamp Tribe of Red Men and Mount Sugar Loaf Lodge of Masons; member of Melhi Temple Shriners of Springfield and Ct Valley [published Jan. 23, 1930 Springfield Republican]
