David John Reese, 68, 793 E. 200 S., died this morning following a lingering illness.

Born Jan. 25, 1888, in Scranton, Penn., he was a son of Richard D. [David] and Mary Jones Reese. The family moved to Scofield, Utah, when he was a boy. They lived there until the mine disaster in 1900, in which his father lost his life. The family then moved to Salt Lake City, where Mr. Reese received his education. On Dec. 15, 1920, he married Bessie Johnson and they moved to Provo shortly after. He worked with Utah Railroad and was a boilermaker foreman at Milford for Union Pacific Railroad for four years. He returned to Provo to work at Geneva Steel Company until 1946, when he became ill.

He was interested in civic activities and was one of the original members of the committee which drew up plans for Utah Valley Hospital. He was active in promoting safety programs at the Steel Plant. His hobbies were fishing and home beautification.

Besides his widow, he is survived by two sons and a daughter: Richard D. Reese, Washington, D. C.; Bruce A. Reese, Lafayette, Ind,; and Mrs. Glen L. (Jean) Jenkins, Orem; seven grandchildren; three brothers and two sisters: Thomas, Benjamin and Reese, all of Salt Lake City, and Mrs. John (Sibelia) Tuttle and Mrs. Dave (Lillian) Williamson, also of Salt Lake City.

Funeral services will be conducted in Berg Mortuary Drawing Room Chapel Saturday, Feb. 11, at 11 a. m., under the direction of Bishop Kenneth Pace of Bonneville Ward. Friends may call at the mortuary Friday from 6 to 8 p. m., and Saturday prior to services. Interment will be in Payson [Provo] City Cemetery.
