Keith Hyrum Bates, 93, passed away at home on April 29, 2012.

Keith was born March 28, 1919 in Wanship, Utah the youngest of six children of Ephraim Bates and Hettie Mae Judd Bates.

He grew up in Salt Lake City and attended the University of Utah receiving his degree in mechanical engineering. He served a mission to the New England States and upon his return married his junior high school sweetheart, Bernice Tidwell, in the Salt Lake Temple. They moved to Schenectady, NY where Keith worked for the General Electric Company helping develop the first jet engines during World War II. They returned to Salt Lake to where he continued a 40 year career with General Electric.

Keith served as Bishop of the Monument Park 15th Ward and spent his life helping others. He found happiness assisting those in need and sharing his mechanical and electrical expertise.

He was a wonderful example of love and service, especially taking care of his wife, Bernice, who passed away in 2001. He is survived by his children Annette (Stewart Larsen) Logan, UT, Cynthia (Lynn Larsen) Denver, CO, Karen (Rand Peterson, deceased) Las Vegas, NV and Jim Bates (Jeanne) Riverton, UT, 17 grandchildren and 38 great- grandchildren.
