World War 1, mustered in for service with Troop A, Squadron A Cavalry, July 22, 1917. Squadron A reorganized for the World War as the 105th Machine Gun Battalion, 27th Division. After training at Camp Wadsworth, SC, the 105th MG Battalion shipped out for Europe, May 17, 1918, aboard the USS Calomares, from Newport News, VA. The 105th MG Battalion docked at St. Nazaire, France, May 30, 1918. He saw combat in both Belgium & France.
Returning to the States, March 5, 1919, aboard the USS Leviathan, docking at Hoboken, NJ. He marched in the great " Welcome Home Parade " for the 27th Division, up 5th Avenue, in New York City, March 25, 1919. Discharged from the service, April 1, 1919, at Camp Upton, NJ.
His cousin Whitney Kernochan served with him in Troop A on the Mexican border. Frederic Kernochan another cousin also served in Squadron A.
